Room to Lead: Continued Support and Opportunity Matter. October 2026 Research Brief

Published: October 13, 2026

Leadership training gives people the skills to lead, but organizations shape whether they can put those skills into practice. This research brief examines how continued employer investment and meaningful opportunities to lead relate to the organizational impact reported by Leadership Institute graduates.

Graduates whose employers supported at least four professional-development or disability-field activities, including conferences, additional training, certifications, professional memberships, and presentations, were more likely to report high organizational impact than graduates receiving less support: 76% compared with 50%. Similarly, 87% of graduates who reported strong opportunities to contribute ideas, influence decisions, guide change, and grow professionally reported high organizational impact, compared with 52% of those who reported fewer opportunities.

Using annual survey data collected from 2023 through 2026, the analysis demonstrates meaningful relationships among continued investment, opportunities to lead, and reported organizational impact. Although the findings do not establish cause and effect, they highlight practical actions disability organizations can take to help employees continue developing, apply their leadership skills, and contribute to meaningful change.
